Competition pool refurbishment completed at Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre

The Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC) has reopened its main indoor competition pool after a $1.1 million refurbishment project.

Closed for a month during the works, the refurbishment saw specialist divers working on the floor of the 79.5 metre long pool and undertaking re-tiling works, with the pool's moveable floor being replaced.

The works also saw the recoating of 210 metres of pool water return gutters and the pool hall repainted with updated murals.

With grandstand seating for 2,000 at its edge, MSAC's 10-lane competition pool has been a key part of the facility since its opening.

The pool features two moveable aquatic booms which allow the pool to be configured in multiple modes.

Opened in 1997, the pool has hosted swimming events during the 2006 Commonwealth Games’ diving events during the 2007 FINA World Swimming Championships and numerous state and national competitions.

Daily activities within the pool include deep water running, learn-to-swim programs, water polo, diving and lap swimming.
