Clive Palmer opens Dinosaur attraction on the Sunshine Coast

Billionaire and MP Clive Palmer has opened his dinosaur park attraction, dubbed 'Palmersaurus', at the Palmer Coolum Resort in Queensland.

The 1.3 hectare attraction includes 160 animated replica dinosaurs, some animatronic, within the grounds of the former Hyatt Coolum Resort, along with a vintage car museum.

Introducing the new attraction, Palmer said the park would serve as a constant reminder the importance of conservation, stating "what we don't want to see is our world end up like the dinosaurs did.

"We've got to take better care of the environment and have a positive message for people.

"We've got to make sure we all learn from the lesson of the dinosaurs, we all learn that Australia can be a better place if we look after the environment."

Australia Zoo owner Terri Irwin, who along with her children Bindi and Robert helped to officially open the park, praised the ambitious project and said it would bring wider tourism benefits for the Sunshine Coast.

However, the dinosaur replicas have been criticised for being located too close to the resort's accommodation, with some installations are situated just metres away from guest rooms.

Earlier this year, Palmer's plans to introduce the dinosaur park and the installation of two giant model on the Palmer Coolum Resort's golf course, led the PGA of Australia to relocate the Australian PGA Championship away from the Resort to a new home at the RACV Royal Pines on the Gold Coast.

The venue change saw thhe end of an 11 year relationship between the PGA of Australia and the Coolum resort which soured last December after Palmer, painted signs on the fairways and engaged in bizarre tactics during the 2012 Australian PGA championship.
