City of Greater Geelong spotlights long weekend challenges for aquatic centres
The City of Greater Geelong has highlighted that community might be faced with potential service disruptions at its aquatic centres this weekend due to a combination of a long weekend and an extreme heat event unusual for March.
Council note that “while we have anticipated a busy three days and planned accordingly, there are likely to be some service impacts to our facilities.
“The safety of swimmers is our highest priority and we will focus on keeping our core services – that is, the main pools at each of our centres – open with appropriate lifeguard supervision.
“This may mean that some parts of our facilities, such as waterslides and splash parks, will need to close for periods of time. We may also need to implement reduced capacity at times to maintain required lifeguard ratios.
“We apologise in advance to anyone inconvenienced by this situation and thank you for your understanding.”
The community is encouraged to monitor the social media accounts of individual centres for regular updates.
Council added “we appreciate the hard work of our lifeguards and aquatic centre staff during this busy time.”
