Cairns Regional Council advises of normal operations of more services

Most of Cairns Regional Council’s services and facilities have returned to normal operation as of Monday following the further easing of Queensland’s Coronavirus restrictions.

The easing now allows residents to use a computer at a library, marvel at the butterflies in the Botanic Gardens conservatory and enjoy live music and comedy.

Boosted capacity at Tanks and the Cairns Performing Arts Centre means more tickets are now available for eight performances showcasing local talent, including previously sold-out shows.

Advising that the Council had opened of venues and reinstated services as soon as possible during each stage of Queensland’s easing of restrictions, Cairns Mayor Bob Manning advised “with gathering limits lifted to 100 people and indoor spaces able to cater to more patrons, we will have most Council services up and running as quickly as possible.

“It will take a little time to get some of our popular events and programs, like Little Taccas and Library storytime back, and there’s still ongoing capacity issues to work through at Tanks and CPAC, but I’m delighted that we can deliver on our commitment to get back to normal, quickly.

“However, now’s not the time to be complacent. You only have to look to Victoria to see what can happen if people stop following health advice. The last thing we want is a return to lockdowns and service closures.”

Residents are reminded that while most services will be back to normal, physical distancing rules continue with indoor facilities operating according to the one person per 4 squares metre rule.

The Council also advises people to not gather in groups of more than 100 at parks, barbecues, the Arrow Trails and other outdoor locations.

Cairns’ popular Active Living program also resumed this week.
