Cairns’ Munro Martin Parklands to have synthetic turf installed for improved access
Cairns Regional Council has advised that Munro Martin Parklands is temporarily closed this month for improvement and maintenance works. Council will be installing synthetic turf in the front and rear sections of the stage areas to improve accessibility for all patrons.
To allow work crews uninterrupted access to the site, ensuring the safety of both the workers and the public, Munro Martin Parklands will be closed until Tuesday 31st October.
Council’s work aims to improve and enhance the facilities at Munro Martin Parklands for everyone to enjoy with the Parklands having become a popular venue for arts, cultural and community events and concerts, attracting crowds of thousands of residents and visitors alike since the official opening in 2016.
Following the completion of Stage 2 in 2020 of the venue’s redevelopment, new back-of-house facilities at Cairns’ Munro Martin Parklands complemented the precinct’s performance space.
The development delivered permanent structures for the performance stage, a green room, shower, all-abilities amenities, all-weather box office and mixing booth for audio/lighting needs. More catering stalls and commercial operators could also be accommodated following an upgrade of electrical services and the addition of a portable bar and cold room.
