Business of Sport Network to present seminar on the Future of Sporting Events in Hong Kong

The Asia-based Business of Sport Network is to present an afternoon seminar on the Future of Sporting Events in Hong Kong.

Being held in association with KPMG at the consultants’ Hong Kong Central offices on the afternoon of Tuesday 18th September 2018, the Future of Sporting Events in Hong Kong: Strategies for Funding and Community Engagement, will explore how major sporting events can play multiple roles in the development of sports in a city or country.

Information on the event explains “(sporting events) can provide the opportunity for local elite athletes to perform at the highest level in front of a home crowd, inspire increased participation in a sport, encourage participants to strive to achieve new levels of skill and generate economic benefits.”

Guest speaker, Yeung Tak-keung, Commissioner for Sports, will outline key aspects of the new 'Major Sports Events Matching Grant Scheme’ that will support the hosting of Hong Kong's major sports events.

KPMG will also present their assessment of the economic impact of major sports events that took place in Hong Kong in 2017 and Hong Kong’s positioning as a destination for major sports events.

The seminar will be completed by a panel discussion on the future of major sports events in Hong Kong.

Launched in Hong Kong 2016, the Business of Sport Network was originally intended to bring together members of Hong Kong's National Sports Associations to help them interact and collaborate.

A Business of Sport Network spokeperson explained that “(in just a short space of time) it became apparent that the numerous sectors of the city's sports community could be communicating with each other more effectively and so membership was extended to all those working on the commercial side of sport.”

Since then it has also expanded to Singapore and now has more than 500 members from more than 150 organisations across its two branches in Hong Kong and Singapore.

BOSN continues to accept new members in each city, with plans to open in additional cities in the future.

Business of Sport Network spokeperson added “the sports industry has never been so dynamic and vibrant; much of this progress is thanks to thousands of dedicated business professionals who are the driving force behind sports events and competitions around the world.

“BOSN connects the people and organisations working on the commercial side of sport. From the project managers bringing the world's most renowned events to life through to the sponsors who provide crucial funding and support, BOSN's aim is to give these instrumental members of the sports community a platform to communicate and collaborate.

“Our mission is to accelerate and facilitate the development of the global sports industry.”
