Burswood Park reserve and playground to be revitalised with $3 million investment
The Western Australian Government will invest $3 million to revitalise Burswood Park reserve and playground to attract more visitors to the precinct.
Burswood Park is a 53-hectare sprawling parkland located on the banks of the Swan River on the popular Burswood Peninsula.
Situated in the inner south-eastern suburb of Burswood within the Town of Victoria Park, the park boasts city views and is walking distance to some of Perth’s premier destinations – including the Matagarup Bridge, Optus Stadium and Crown Perth.
Less than five kilometres from the city and 15 minutes from the airport, Burswood Park is a popular venue for locals and tourists alike, with its sweeping landscaped parklands, local fauna, manicured gardens and pathways.
Already a popular location for families with young children, the 28-year-old playground has exceeded its expected lifespan.
The investment, which will be part of the 2024-25 State Budget, will see ageing infrastructure replaced by a new modern play area designed to appeal to a broader age range.
Detailed design work is yet to be completed but accessibility and modern safety features - including an appropriate safety enclosure - will be key considerations during the development process.
Designers will be tasked with delivering a space children of all abilities can enjoy while incorporating innovative, interactive and educational elements to stimulate cognitive development, creativity and problem solving.
The replacement of the playground aligns with the Burswood Park Board's long-term vision for the precinct to enhance social connections through a vibrant and active community space.
