Blue Fitness parts with Australian distribution of Star Trac equipment

The distribution of Star Trac’s industry leading range of commercial fitness equipment in Australia is to move from Blue Fitness to a new entity headed by entrepreneur Adam Lewitt   - with Blue Fitness retaining Star Trac distribution rights in New Zealand.

Blue Fitness has managed significant growth in Star Trac’s market share since becoming the brand’s Australian distributor in 2011. During this time, Star Trac equipment has been installed in fitness clubs, aquatic and recreation centres, military and security installations and educational establishments, with notable clients including Fitness First, Fit n Fast, Crunch, UFC Gym Australia, Monash University and the Australian Federal Police.

In 2013, Wollongong-based Lewit partnered with Ben Davies, owner of the Blue Leisure Group of companies, which includes Blue Fitness. Over the following 12 months, the pair have worked together building a strong team and further developing the Star Trac brand in Australia.

With Lewit now acquiring the full Australian distribution rights for Star Trac, he explains “this is a massive opportunity to distribute a premium brand in new markets.

“We have a team in place to continue the growth of the Star Trac brand in Australia, building on the foundations built by Blue Fitness.”

Backing the change, Star Trac Asia Pacific Director of Sales Steve Jones states “I am truly excited by this opportunity for really strong growth in the sales of Star Trac equipment.

“With Adam having had a stake in the distribution of Star Trac equipment over the past year I have huge confidence in Adam and his team continuing our growth.”

Beyond this change, Ben Davies will continue to head the Blue Leisure Group across Australia and New Zealand which has consulting, finance and equipment distribution companies based in Auckland and Melbourne. Among Blue Leisure Group interests, Blue Fitness will remain as the distributor for Star Trac and Spinning in New Zealand, along with the New Zealand distribution of Hoist Fitness products and will also concentrate on distributing Peak Pilates in Australia.

Davies explained “I am delighted to have completed the sale of the Star Trac business in Australia” adding that he looked forward to concentrating on his other businesses.

Looking to the future of Star Trac in Australia, Steve Jones adds “I’m extremely excited about the opportunity to work with Adam and his team to grow this huge business opportunity in the Australian market.”

Adam Lewit is also looking forward to the opportunity, concluding “for a long time the equipment conversation has been about the ‘big four’, I want to now make that a ‘big five’.”

The announcement of the transition was made at the 2014 Australasian Fitness & Health Expo.
