Biosecurity measures to be heightened across 2022 Perth Royal Show
The Western Australian Government is delivering a $2 million package to support the 2022 Perth Royal Show with the funding going towards enhanced onsite biosecurity measures to reduce the risk of livestock diseases as well as providing a 25% discount to ticket prices across all categories.
The annual eight-day event that brings the country to the city, will have an emphasis on agricultural activities and free events, as well as a unique digital media education program for young people on where food comes from, ag-tech and sustainability.
Biosecurity measures will be heightened across the show in response to the elevated risk of foot and mouth disease, including sanitation mats and hand sanitiser stations at the entrance to livestock displays, visitor restrictions around livestock displays and cautionary signage.
Royal Agricultural Society of WA animal health staff will also be on hand to raise visitors’ awareness about foot and mouth disease risk and help them comply with biosecurity requirements.
Each ticket will contain biosecurity information, while educational material will also be visible around the showgrounds so exhibitors, staff and showgoers understand the impact a potential livestock disease would have on the State’s valuable agricultural industries.
The State funding will also assist the Royal Agricultural Society of WA to comply with COVID-19 compliance costs.
WA Agriculture and Food Minister Alannah MacTiernan notes “We have put a special focus on biosecurity. Given the highlighted risk with Foot and Mouth Disease and Lumpy Skin Disease, we are helping the Royal Agricultural Society promote that message and take special care.
“The Perth Royal Show is a great celebration of our primary industries – showcasing the diversity, sophistication and sustainability of modern agriculture.
“It connects the city to the country, and we are subsidising tickets again to maximise access to the Show for West Australians.”
The Perth Royal Show is on 24th September until 1st October 2022.
