Big Day Out to stay on Gold Coast

One of Queensland's most popular music festivals, Big Day Out (BDO), will stay on the Gold Coast for at least the next five years following an agreement between the Queensland Government and the event organisers.
However, the event will be held at a new, yet to be announced venue, with its current Parklands home about to be developed into an athletes village for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
Announcing the agreement, Queensland Tourism, Major Events, Small Business and the Commonwealth Games Minister Jann Stuckey said the event's organisers had accepted the State Government's help in relocate to another venue on the Gold Coast.
Minister Stuckey explained "this agreement lays to rest any speculation about the future of the Big Day Out not remaining on the Gold Coast.
"(The) decision will let (BDO Chief Executive Adam Zammit) proceed with selecting and securing a site for next year's festival."
Zammit added "we hope to secure and announce a new location on the Gold Coast very soon."
More than 45,000 people are expected to attend this year's festival on Sunday 20th January.
