Bibbulmun Track walking events cater for all fitness and skill levels

The Bibbulmun Track, one of the world’s great long-distance walk trails winding through the heart of the scenic South West of Western Australia, offers over 20 events for all ages and fitness levels including day walks, overnight hikes, women-only walks and childrens’ events.

The Track stretches 1000km from Kalamunda in the Perth Hills, to Albany on the south coast and the variety of walks on offer give people a chance to experience the Track in ways that suit their fitness, comfort zone and skill level.

Being fun and interactive, the events offer a great way to walk the Track and meet new friends. Feedback from participants suggests that many use these events to find other like-minded people to head off with on other walks, longer walks or even end-to-ends.

The calendar has a number of day walks designed to get people outdoors, including specialised themed events such as Pub, Pumps and Pipes, offering a guided walk on the Bibbulmun Trackto explore the history and controversy surrounding the construction of the Mundaring Weir, the pump stations and the pipeline with an expert guide from the National Trust.

There is also a selection of family and childrens’ events catering for pre-schoolers to teenagers. Dr Dolittle Goes Bush and Camp Cooking for Kids are great events to get the children outdoors and onto the Bibbulmun Track over the Easter school holiday.

For the teenagers, there is a three-day expedition in July where they camp out and experience the fun and camaraderie of being in and connecting with, the bush and with others their age.

The Walking with Mum and Walking with Dad weekends provide the perfect opportunity for parents or grandparents to spend time with the children, exploring the bush and teaching them valuable bush and camping skills.

For women, pampering and rejuvenating is being offered on the Dandy Dwellingup Dames weekend in May or the Balingup Belles escape in September.

The Foundation also makes it easy to tackle overnight adventures. Events cater for the complete novice on Bibbulmun Trek for Beginners to the experienced hiker, venturing into the wilderness of the south west on extended walks of up to 9 days. All essential hiking gear and transport are provided and experienced guides are on hand to offer support.

For those planning their own adventure, the Foundation hosts fun and informative workshops/seminars to guide and teach new skills in trip planning, navigation, hiking gear and food, and their series of Social Sunday Walks are the perfect introduction to the Track - led by trained volunteers, these walks are free for members of the Foundation and only $15 for non-members.
