BCEC Presents New Arts Initiative

In a move that promises to cause much interest with visiting delegates and guests, Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre (BCEC) has established the first permanent art space in an Australian convention centre - a brand new, purpose built gallery to display its art collection, which boasts major works by some of Australiaâs most significant artists.
The Gallery, located on the Centreâs Plaza Level has been created specifically to showcase major works of the Centreâs museum quality collection of Indigenous and contemporary Australian art.
The 400 metre2 space features an environmentally sustainable bamboo timber floor, a soft, neutral colour scheme, and specialty lighting, creating a sympathetic environment for the presentation of artworks.
Represented in the Centreâs overall collection are works by some of Australiaâs leading contemporary artists, including Gordon Bennett, Judy Watson, Michael Johnson and Judith Wright. They are complemented by a group of groundbreaking paintings by some of the most celebrated Indigenous artists of the late twentieth century, including Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri, Ronnie Tjampitjinpa and Johnny Warangula Tjupurrula.
The Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre is the only event facility of its kind in Australia to have an art collection of this calibre. The collection was commissioned for the Queensland Pavilion at Expo 88.
The gallery also provides a unique and innovative event space for the Centre.
The stylish new space will be available for intimate functions such as cocktails and VIP dining.
The gallery is well situated within Brisbaneâs Southbank Cultural Precinct, close to the Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art, as well as the State Library, Museum and Performing Arts Complex. With this exciting new gallery space, the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre becomes a destination for art lovers in its own right.
