Baw Baw Shire Council awards $11 million contract for Warragul Leisure Centre Expansion
Baw Baw Shire Council has awarded the $11,254,950 contract for the construction of Warragul Leisure Centre Expansion project to locally based Kubale Construction.
Once complete, the existing two-court stadium space will be transformed into a multi-use sports facility, including two new indoor courts, improved pedestrian links, new café and kitchen facilities, and car parking spaces to better service increased demand of indoor sports in Baw Baw Shire.
The project will feature:
Construction of two new indoor (basketball/netball) courts
Spectator seating and lounge viewing area
New cafe and kitchen
Referee change room
First aid room
Storage facilities
Swim club store
Public amenities including Changing Places accessible change room
Improved pedestrian and parking access links between new and existing facilities.
Having secured the early works contract at the start of the year, Kubale Construction have been on site undertaking preparatory works for the project including earthworks, installation of new storm water pipework, sewer diversion works, and the demolition and removal of redundant infrastructure.
With support from the Victorian Government’s Changing Places program, Council was successful in obtaining a $110,000 grant to provide Baw Baw Shire’s first Changing Places accessible change room with adult change tables and hoists as part of the expansion project.
This project is funded by a $6 million contribution from the Victorian Government’s Community Sports Infrastructure Stimulus Program and the balance contribution from Baw Baw Shire Council.
With the main contract now awarded and the finalisation of the contract documents underway, works can progress to source necessary labour, plant, equipment, expertise and materials required for the multi-million-dollar expansion project with construction timelines to be identified.
Mayor Michael Leaney enthused “we’re excited to progress towards the next steps on this significant expansion project.
“The existing Warragul Leisure Centre will be transformed into a modern, multi-use facility to better service the growing demand for indoor sports in Baw Baw Shire.
“We look forward to seeing the construction works come to life with support from Kubale Construction.”
