Barwon Valley Activity Centre to receive major sports flooring upgrade

The City of Greater Geelong’s Barwon Valley Activity Centre (BVAC) is due to receive a major upgrade to its flooring this September ahead of the commencement of its 2019/20 Summer Futsal League.

The BVAC Management team have advised that Gerflor Australia have been engaged to install their Taraflex Multi-Use vinyl flooring (the product is currently being manufactured in Europe) over the top of Court 2 - the Centre's 'blue court'.

BVAC is a multi-purpose stadium located just south of the Barwon River in Belmont. It’s central location makes it attractive for regular sporting competitions and as a training venue. It is also well suited for events, trade shows, and markets.

BVAC and its user groups offer a wide range of activities for the community including: Futsal, Badminton, Roller Derby as well as junior sport development programs such as Gymbaroo and Mini Sports (three to four years).

BVAC also has multiple futsal development programs such as Little Kickers (18 months to seven years) and Futsal Clinics (six to 10 years and 11 to 14 years).

As Taraflex Multi-Use vinyl flooring is renowned worldwide, often the preferred surface for international futsal competitions, it is anticipated to significantly enhance the level of enjoyment and performance Futsal Geelong players experience.

Essentially the product will be strong enough to ensure the venues adaptability in relation to markets and events, but also improve the safety for internal sport programs by reducing the likelihood of impact injuries. This product was the preferred option to existing Futsal Geelong players when they were surveyed last summer.

Gerflor Australia expect a three to four day install time in which Court 2 will be unavailable. Futsal Geelong management will make arrangements and liaise with affected teams and venue users as soon as information becomes available.
