Barooga Sporties Health and Fitness centre receives funding for indoor heated pool facilities
Moira Shire Council has voted to grant Barooga Sporties Health and Fitness Centre up to $100,000 over two financial years to subsidise the provision of indoor heated pool facilities on the basis of an equivalent contribution from Berrigan Shire.
Moira Shire is bounded by the Murray, Goulburn and Ovens Rivers, and is about three hours drive north of Melbourne.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the health and fitness centre at Barooga Sporties was well patronised with approximately 50,000 visits each year, with a large portion coming from Moira Shire.
Moira Shire Council believes this facility will play an important role in the community during the COVID-19 recovery phase, when residents can re-engage in an active and social lifestyle.
Council has identified a substantial groundswell of community support both sides of the river for this facility to remain open.
Having met with representatives from Barooga Sporties Health and Fitness, the General Manager from Berrigan Shire and Moira Shire Chief Executive Mark Henderson are yet to work through the details of this co-funded grant.
