Bangladesh to build exclusive tourist zone

The Government of Bangladesh is to build an exclusive 470 hectare zone for tourists that will feature a waterpark, convention centre, hotels and night clubs.

To be built in the south of the country near the border with Myanmar, the Government has given the go-ahead to two public-private partnership (PPP) projects that aim to boost Bangladesh’s tourism sector.

Under one project, an exclusive tourist zone will be developed on the shores of the Andaman Sea in the Sabrang area south of the town of Cox’s Bazaar Teknaf Upazila.

An international-standard tourism complex will be established in place of Motel Upal, owned by Bangladesh Tourism Corporation, under the second project.

Watch towers, shopping malls, food courts, cineplexes and swimming pools will feature as part of this development.
