Award winning Nippers program set for third season
The Wet’n’Wild Sydney Nippers program is back for its third season with more than 220 enthusiastic youngsters tackling the Wave Pool on the morning of Sunday 6th December.
The club, which was the first of its kind in Australia, was set up to give children in Western Sydney (whose population have the highest rate of drownings in coastal locations) a genuine Nippers experience teaching them vital surf safety skills in a fun and supportive environment.
Last season, Wet’n’Wild Sydney Nippers won the AUSTSWIM Community Education Program of the Year which is a credit to the amazing enthusiasm of the Nippers, Age Managers and staff from Surf Life Saving NSW and Wet’n’Wild Sydney.
Wet’n’Wild Sydney General Manager Dianne Rigg explained that the waterpark is looking forward to the continuing partnership with Surf Life Saving NSW, stating “we're really excited about partnering with Surf Life Saving NSW for the third season of Nippers at Wet’n’Wild Sydney. This has been a fantastic partnership and provides a fantastic opportunity for the kids of Western Sydney to get involved and learn about the importance of water safety.
“The Wet'n'Wild Sydney Nippers Club provides a beach within reach for hundreds of kids that live away from the coastline with kids learning by participating in fun games, sports and educational activities, to slowly build confidence in and around the water.”
Surf Life Saving NSW Member Services Manager, Kate Higginbotham, says that there has been a strong interest from parents looking to get involved in volunteering for the club.
Higginbotham added “this season we will be running Under 6 to Under 12 age groups, meaning that we need all hands on deck to help make this another successful season.
“Our Nipper parents are an invaluable resource in making this happen, and we look forward to their involvement as Age Managers this year.
“Without the support and assistance from Wet’n’Wild Sydney, the Age Managers and our surf lifesavers, none of this would be possible and we once again thank them for being a part of this community initiative.”
The season started yesterday and breaks over the school holidays, returning on Sunday 31st January.
The program then runs throughout February and concludes with an end of season carnival on Sunday 20th March.
