Award for Porirua City Council's sports ground website

Porirua City Council's simple to use Sports Ground Updates website won New Zealand's Excellence in Information Management Award while also coming third in the Excellence in Innovation Award at the 2011 Association of Local Government Information Management (ALGIM) awards.
Council Website Manager Dale Hartle says Porirua's sports teams, parents and coaches, and Council staff, are all benefiting from the new website, stating "the Updates website enables the public to receive up-to-date information about whether a sports ground is open or closed for training or weekend games, wherever they may be, on whatever device they choose."
Hartle says streamlining a previously time-consuming process into a quick and easy oneclick update and notification system has made all the difference for our administrators and users.
Subscribers can receive updates by RSS or email, or text-in to receive a response with the latest status information.
They can also view a map of the location of the park and get driving instructions using Google maps.
Administrators use the one-click update function, and managers receive automated monthly reports.
The projects won this award against competition that included mapping for the Rugby World Cup and Contact Centres following the Christchurch earthquake.
The Excellence in Information Management Award was sponsored by Information Leadership Consulting and prizes included a hree-day training programme and a voucher for expenses in attending the next ALGIM event.
