Australian Reptile Park welcomes Dundee the Eastern Grey Kangaroo as their Christmas Miracle

Australian Reptile Park Keeper Brandon Gifford is hand raising 'Dundee', an Eastern Grey Kangaroo after his mother was hit by a car. With his tiny face peering out of her pouch, he was fortunately rescued by people driving past who checked just in case.

Dundee is being dubbed the Christmas Miracle of The Australian Reptile Park, as he wouldn’t have survived if he had not been found in the pouch.

Over the Christmas holiday period, more people are on the roads and many sadly do not slow down for our native wildlife.

Looking after Dundee involves around the clock love and care. Gifford feeds him specially formulated milk every five hours including a feed at 2am every night and ensures he is in sight of at all times, as Kangaroo joeys will stress if they cannot see their ‘mother’ figure.

Explaining what it is like to act as a surrogate mum for Dundee, Gifford advised “looking after a Kangaroo joey has been one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done.

"We have formed an amazing bond and he follows me everywhere around the house! I can’t remember what life was like before him."

Eventually after reaching the appropriate age, Dundee will be slowly introduced to the Parks free range Kangaroos before eventually being out and about in the park for visitors to welcome.
