Austrade seeks industry input on tourism infrastructure

The Federal Government has given Austrade with the task of refocussing uncommitted tourism grants funding to a new program that will deliver demand-driver infrastructure (DDI) for the tourism industry.

Under the new funding regime, States and territories will be responsible for implementing DDI projects that best meet their tourism infrastructure needs with Austrade set to work closely with states and territories to develop a set of program principles and some boundaries for demand-driver infrastructure.

Unlike previous tourism grants programs, this will not be a discretionary grants program neither will it subsidise competitive business investment, but rather it will seek to ensure that the benefits of any government investment can be multiplied across the tourism sector.

Austrade has released a discussion paper on this and wants to gain an industry-wide perspective of tourism infrastructure priorities that could be served by the DDI program. It is also seeking feedback to inform the development of a definition of demand-driver infrastructure.

Austrade is currently meeting with peak industry bodies and will accept comments from industry until 30th April 2014.

Comments can be made to email: tourismDDI@austrade.gov.au
