Arthur Tunstall steps down as Australian Commonwealth Games Association NSW Division leader

After 24 years as Chairman/President of the Australian Commonwealth Games Association NSW Division (ACGA NSW), and a staggering total of 48 years on the Division Executive Committee, Arthur Tunstall has resigned from the position of President.

In accepting his resignation, the ACGA NSW Executive has created the delegated position of Honorary President - a role the spritely veteran has accepted with humility and pride, stating "I am more than happy to keep contributing my time and energy to the Commonwealth Games movement as required."

ACGA NSW is the state peak body responsible for Commonwealth Games operations, fund-raising, publicity and development in NSW. The Division assists the national body with key fund-raising strategies to provide funding, clothing, travel, accommodation and accreditation of athletes and officials to each Commonwealth Games.

Currently ACGA NSW is experiencing a busy time with the Queen's Baton visiting Australia in early November and preparations in full swing for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow next year prior to the much awaited 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.

Acknowledging Arthur Tunstall's contributions, ACGA NSW Chief Executive Peter Tate explained "Arthur's service and commitment to the Commonwealth Games movement in Australia and particularly NSW is without peer.

"He started as the boxing delegate in 1948, so 65 years of active and high-level service is absolutely phenomenal in any industry."

Since 1962, Tunstall has been on the HQ staff of eight Commonwealth Games teams, at various times as Chef-de-Mission, General Manager, Assistant General Manager and Transport Officer.

He was bestowed Life Membership of ACGA in 1979, and of ACGA NSW in 1998. Tunstall received the Australian Sports Medal in 2000, and when inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame in 2005, the citation read "pioneer voluntary Australian sports administrator and the key person in amateur boxing and the Australian Commonwealth Games movement across the second half of last century."

Alex Fulcher has been appointed the new President, having been the Division Vice President since 2000.

Fulcher received the Order of Australia Medal in the recent Queen's Birthday Honours List for service to cycling, adding to his MBE awarded in 1982. Michael O'Mara of Athletics NSW has been elevated to Vice President and Don Brown of NSW Wrestling is the new addition on the Executive Committee.
