ARIA and PPCA welcome Music Australia’s Record Label Development Scheme
The Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) and Phonographic Performance Company of Australia (PPCA) have welcomed Music Australia’s Record Label Development Scheme (RLDS) announced yesterday.
The scheme will offer grants to support the development of Australian recording artists, aiming to assist record labels that are actively engaged in promoting local talent in global markets.
Funding Overview:
$10,000 to $150,000 in funding available per application
Independent and major Australian subsidiaries are eligible to apply
The scheme covers recordings, videos, marketing, artist development and more
Applications open now until Tuesday, 8th October 2024
ARIA and PPCA Chief Executive Annabelle Herd notes “this is a fantastic initiative from Music Australia that truly recognises the critical role of Australia’s independent and major labels in developing and exporting local artists to the world. Record labels play an important role investing in and growing local talent, who are more likely to succeed if the domestic industry is larger and more commercially viable.
“This strategic investment from Music Australia is more positive news and will add to Aus music’s continued momentum on our own shores and on the global stage. We’ve spent a lot of time discussing the Australian music ecosystem of late, to which the RLDS will provide an important boost by encouraging a greater investment into critical marketing and promotional activities for artists on our shores.”
ARIA is a national industry association with 195 members representing major and independent record producers, manufacturers, and distributors. ARIA acts as an advocate for the Australian music industry, administers the labelling code of practice, and compiles industry information and research. It also produces the ARIA Charts every week and the annual ARIA Awards. Most importantly, ARIA supports Australian music and creates opportunities for it to be heard.
PPCA is a non-profit copyright collecting society that provides blanket licences for the use of recorded music in Australia. Revenue generated from licensing is distributed to registered record labels and artists so they can continue to make music for all of us to enjoy.
