ARI release guidelines for managing Coronavirus risks in reopened aquatic centres

As governments across Australia look at easing restrictions and reopening aquatic, recreation and sport facilities, the NSW-based Aquatic and Recreation Institute (ARI) has released its Guide to COVID-19 Venue Operations.

Developed in consultation ARI members and peak industry bodies across Australia, the Guide aims to provide clear and practical guidelines to effectively manage the risk of transmission of COVID-19 and comply with Government measures in the management of aquatic, recreation and sport facilities.

Introducing the Guide, ARI Executive Officer, Louise Magee explained “gyms, leisure and sporting venues must be planning for how to safely and responsibly deliver programs and services … (and) this document (aims) to provide venue managers and their staff practical advice and steps to ensure when re-opening their facility, they are adhering to the relevant government recommendations.”

In the Guide’s introduction, ARI Chairman Colin Kane goes on to say “it is advised that each venue use this information as a reference guide in conjunction with the references listed at the end of the document to conduct their own risk assessments relevant to their respective venues.”
