April Opening for Emirates Ice Land Waterpark

Ice Land Waterpark, set to be the largest waterpark in the Arabian Gulf, is to open in April.

The waterpark, in the United Arab Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, is the first element to open of a major family entertainment destination, WOW RAK. Located 80 kilometres north of Dubai, WOW RAK will also boast an amusement park, shopping mall and resort facilities when complete.

Developed by Polo Amusement Park as a joint venture with the authorities of Ras Al Khaimah, the 110,000 metres2 waterpark was originally scheduled to open in May 2009.

The snow-themed park will feature 27 waterslides, what the developers say is the region's largest manmade waterfall along with aqua football, a snorkelling pool, an arctic wave pool, an artificial coral reef and a kids cove. There is also a food court catering for 650 covers.

The park is designed to handle around 15,000 people.

The waterparks of the Arabian Gulf were featured in the September/October 2009 issue of Australasian Leisure Management.
