Applications for funding from Manurewa Local Board far exceed available budget
Auckland Council’s Manurewa Local Board has advised that applications for grant funding reached almost $200,000 in the latest round – far exceeding the available budget.
The latest funding totalled just over $69,000, with some applications declined, and others only partly funded.
The Manurewa Local Board covers the Wiri industrial estate, Manurewa East and Homai, and the coastal suburbs of Weymouth and Wattle Downs.
Among the successful applicants were groups helping Manurewa youth, including Youthline, Guardians of our Children Trust – which works with separated parents, and programmes in local schools.
Sir John Walker's Find Your Field of Dreams initiative was successful in securing $5,000 and while not the $15000 applied for, the money will go towards helping youngsters engage in athletics. The aim of The John Walker Find Your Field of Dreams Foundation is to positively impact the lives of young people in Auckland’s areas of greatest need by providing them with opportunities to live healthy, active lifestyles and pursue a positive pathway through sport and physical recreation.
Mountfort Park Water Polo also secured part of the funding requested for pool hire for school’s programme and community league, Kings Birthday tournament, and training programmes from February 2023 to December 2023. $9,292.29 was requested, $3,921.75 was approved.
