ANZSLA hosts events explaining highs and lows of the 2011 Rugby World Cup
The Australian and New Zealand Sport Law Association (ANZSLA) is hosting a New Zealand based Regional Seminar Series that will discuss the highlights and lowlights of the Rugby World Cup 2011.
The events, the first in a series of New Zealand regional seminars, will be staged this week in Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington.
Speakers at the events are:
Stephen Cottrell. A former General Counsel and current strategic advisor to the New Zealand Rugby Union (NZRU), Cottrell is a consultant at MinterEllison Rudd Watts specialising in sports law. He has represented the NZRU and the All Blacks at the 2003, 2007 and 2011 Rugby World Cups. In addition, he represented the Samoan Rugby Union in relation to the 'tweeting' saga. Given his expereince, Cottrell will be bringing a participating Union and team perspective to the seminar.
Mike Heron. Heron is a litigation partner at Russell McVeagh - the official law firm for Rugby World Cup 2011. His practice includes media and sport law. Mike was a lead partner for RWC Ltd and conducted a review of RWC 2007 for the NZRU. Heron is Chair of the Board of Drug Free Sport NZ and a judicial officer for the SANZAR Super Rugby competition.
Joe Edwards. A senior solicitor at Russell McVeagh, Edwards was on secondment with the International Rugby Board and Rugby World Cup Ltd for most of 2011. He was based in the IRB's headquarters in Dublin before returning to the Main Operation Centre in Auckland for Rugby World Cup 2011. As part of his role in the legal team, Edwards dealt with a wide range of matters, from social media through to on-field issues, and worked alongside all of the key stakeholders, including the MED, IMG, RNZ, RTH, venues and local councils.
