Anantara Golden Triangle wins at the travel industry's oscars
Anantara Golden Triangle has been named 'Thailand's Leading Resort' at the prestigious World Travel Awards Gala Ceremony held in Bangkok this week.
Hot on the heels of being awarded the runners up prize in the 2011 Condé Nast Traveler World Savers Awards and receiving Green Globe Certification, Anantara Golden Triangle has been making its mark in the global tourism arena as one of Thailand's top destinations for visitors since it opened its doors in 2003.
The resort is located close to the historic town of Chiang Saen in the heart of northern Thailand's hill-tribe country. The resort's 77 rooms and suites feature large balconies with in-built sofas with sweeping views of Myanmar, Laos and Thailand. Signature terrazzo bathtubs large enough for two people are the central feature of the bathrooms designed in a 'flow-through' style enabling them to be opened up to or closed off from the bedrooms. A stunning infinity-edge swimming pool captures the views over the Mekong valley below.
Set in 160 acres of indigenous forest and landscaped gardens the undisputed highlight of a guest's stay at the resort is the elephant camp which is now home to thirty elephants that have been rescued off the streets of Thailand. Guests are offered the rare opportunity to learn to 'drive' an elephant by choosing to undertake a unique three-day mahout training course.
Speaking of the award, Anantara Golden Triangle General Manager Chris Adams stated "(it is) an honor ... to win this prestigious award and to be recognised by our peers in the travel industry (and) "I'd like to dedicate this win to all the staff members at Anantara Golden Triangle who continuously strive to give our guests a truly unique and indigenous five star experience."
The World Travel Awards serve to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the global travel and tourism industry and this year, a phenomenal 213,000 industry professionals participated in the voting process.
