Aiming to drive local revitalisation Nagasaki Stadium City opens
The Nagasaki Stadium City precinct has been opened, aiming to drive local revitalisation through combining sport stadium with a hotel, retail and tourism attractions.
Officially opened on 14th October, the 20,000-capacity Nagasaki Peace Stadium, home of J. League football club V-Varen Nagasaki, features as the centrepiece of the project which also offers an indoor arena, hotel, office tower (stadium city north) and shopping mall (stadium city south).
Developer Japanet Holdings has also included a zip line attraction and craft beer brewery in the precinct which is operated by Regional Creation Nagasaki.
Akito Takata, President and Chief Executive of Japanet Holdings, the parent company of Regional Creation Nagasaki, stated during last Monday’s opening ceremony “we can finally say that the time of the Nagasaki Stadium City starts now but I think the important thing is that we keep providing more ‘out of the ordinary’ events (the first event at the venue on 13th October featured locally-born artist Masaharu Fukuyama held the memorial concert, Ed).
“In Tokyo, you would have many opportunities to attend sport events after work. By creating a place where ‘out of the ordinary’ things like attending sport events and dining out become normality in ‘everyday life’ in Nagasaki, the people here will see the value of them as something they would look forward to in their life, and therefore Nagasaki will be a city where more children and residents prefer to live and stay.”
The much-anticipated multifunctional stadium promises a high-quality fan experience, with spectators able to enjoy an immersive in-venue experience with seats as close as 5 metres from the pitch. Premium seats are also available, including ‘Player Seats’ that will allow fans to watch the game from the same angle as the players.
