Age of Enlightenment Reaches Canberra

Canberra is to launch an exciting new annual event in March 2011. Held over four nights on 11th, 12th, 18th and 19th March, the event, named Enlighten, will coincide with the Canberra Festival and aims to showcase the nationâs capital in a new light and bring a new dimension to Canberraâs birthday celebrations.
Set against the backdrop of Lake Burley Griffin, Enlighten will be a vibrant event hub with international headline acts, exclusive after-dark experiences and premium ticketed events at partnering national attractions and spectacular lighting effects canvassed across the vast facades of surrounding iconic buildings.
Enlighten will be staged at The Event Hub, Commonwealth Place, Parkes; Parliament House; The National Gallery of Australia (NGA); and the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House King George Terrace, Parkes.
Events include live performances by George Benson (Friday, 11th March), Chris Isaak (Friday, 18th March) and Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons (Saturday, 19th March); late night viewings of the creative explosion that is the Ballets Russes: the art of costume exhibition and the NGAâs Sculpture Garden; platinum experience. In addition to a late night viewing of the Ballet Russes: the art of costume exhibition, hear art talks and kick back with a night of comedy, cabaret, music and fashion in the stunning surrounds of the National Gallery of Australiaâs Sculpture Garden; and a journey through the secrets of Old Parliament House on the exclusive Spies, Leaks and Scandals tour.
