Additional shade for fans at VAILO Adelaide 500

Ahead of the 2023 VAILO Adelaide 500, a new shade structure is ready for installation over the grandstand on Pit Straight in Victoria Park.

The installation of the new shade structure for the Adelaide 500, to be held on 23rd-26th November, delivers on the South Australian Government’s commitment to provide shade to almost 70% of all grandstand seats, up from 44% in 2022.

Due to the previous South Australian Government selling off lots of the existing Adelaide 500 infrastructure, current SA Premier Peter Malinauskas had to either repurchase it or find new ways to bring the event back to life.

This meant the familiar large blue and red shades that had overlooked the grandstands around the Victoria Park street circuit since 2009 were not present and less seats were covered.

Premier Malinauskas notes “Our investment to bring back the VALO Adelaide 500 delivered a stunning success in 2022. But we know it can be even better. Tight timeframes for last year’s race meant we weren’t able to secure as much shade as we would have liked.

“In November, I committed to increasing covered seating for this year’s event and now, we are delivering, with 84% of the Pit Lane Grandstand to be covered.”

The Government’s decision to reinstate the Adelaide 500 delivered significant dividends in 2022, with more than 258,000 fans in attendance, delivering a record economic benefit of $51.85 million.

The mammoth build for this year’s VAILO Adelaide 500 is on track with provision for:

  • Six Grandstands – 13,912 seats (two in progress)

  • Three Accessibility Viewing Structures

  • 12 Corporate Hospitality Structures (four in progress)

  • Five Overpasses Structures (two in progress)

To date, the event is enjoying strong ticket sales, up 6.5% off the back of a successful event in 2022, confirmation of headline music act Robbie Williams and interest in a nail-biting Repco Supercars Championship season which will likely come down to the wire.

The VAILO Adelaide 500 is Australia’s largest domestic ticketed motorsport event – bigger than Bathurst – with four-day and single day covered grandstand tickets, as well as general admission options available.

Event organisers are also ramping up corporate hospitality suite offerings 2023, drawing inspiration from the F1 Paddock. This includes three-story Precinct by ESE which will be one of the hot spots to watch all the racing.
