Additional funding secures redevelopment of Bunbury’s Hands Oval
The redevelopment of Bunbury’s Hands Oval Pavilion has been given a boost with an additional $3 million investment by the Western Australian Government, increasing the total contribution to $8 million as part of the WA Recovery Plan.
With the State Government investment, the total funding for the project is $17.42 million, with other contributions from the Australian Government, the City of Bunbury, and the South West Football League.
The redevelopment will see the construction of a new pavilion with sustainable, inclusive multi-purpose sports facilities and grandstand seating. The redeveloped Hands Oval will accommodate year-round sport, recreation and community activity, including major events, and will be capable of accommodating pre-season AFL and AFLW games.
City of Bunbury endorsed local company Perkins Builders as the preferred tenderer with construction scheduled for January 2023 and an expected completion by the end of 2024.
WA Sport and Recreation Minister David Templeman noted "we have a flourishing sports community, and the Hands Oval redevelopment will provide a high-quality stadium and facilities to support that.
"This $8 million investment will allow Western Australians to enjoy more sporting events and activities while providing an economic boost for our State."
Bunbury State Member Don Punch added "Hands Oval is the premier football facility, and one of the best outdoor venues in general, not just in Bunbury but in the entire South-West.
"This is an important investment for our region, and one that will support the attraction of key State and national events to our community.
"For everyone who enjoys sport, especially football, as either a participant, a supporter or as a spectator, this project will deliver a fantastic asset to support the growth of sport in our region for many years to come.”
