ACT Government to launch $2.6 million rebranding for Canberra

With Canberra's centenary year celebrations coming to a close, the ACT Government will launch a $2.6 million campaign to promote Australia's national capital.

The campaign, set to get its full launch in March 2014, includes a new Canberra logo to represent the capital city, with the letters 'CBR' standing for 'Confident, Bold and Ready'.

ACT Chief Minister Katy Gallagher says the brand represents new opportunities for Canberra, stating "when we started thinking about the lasting legacy from our centenary year, it became clear that we really needed to capitalise on the community and city pride that has emerged over the last 12 months.

"Early on in the year we got a real sense that people were feeling not only more connected to their city but were feeling really proud to call Canberra their home.

"This is not about just giving Canberra a new logo. Our city 'brand' has to be a collective idea - and a collective advocacy - about who we are and what we have to offer - a brand which truly represents what Canberra is all about."

ACT Treasurer Andrew Barr says most of the money will be spent on advertising, telling the ABC "the bulk of the Government spend will be around promotion and what's called in the industry 'activation' of the brand.

"This is consistent with what most cities are undertaking around the world and in Australia."

A three month community consultation program is underway before the official launch of the new branding.
