Abu Dhabi reveals new city wide ticketing system
Abu Dhabi’s Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT Abu Dhabi) has launched its own online event ticketing system.
The move comes as an expansion of its recently launched event licensing system that looks to streamline and facilitate event registration and licensing procedures for the Emirate.
Nasser Al Reyami, Regulatory and Licensing Department Director at DCT Abu Dhabi, explained “this system is a new starting point for the Event Licensing System, which is managed by DCT Abu Dhabi with the aim of providing solutions and infrastructure to support its activities that will maintain the steady growth of the Emirate’s tourism sector.”
In an effort to gauge interest, DCT Abu Dhabi held a series of workshops for those interested in using the event ticketing system, including hotel establishments, event organisers, shopping centres and meetings facilities owners.
The new system processes ticketing electronically and includes events where tickets are sold after obtaining the initial approval from the system, in addition to providing a database for ticketed events.
Al Reyami added “this step reflects our commitment to adopting an e-services system, consolidating Abu Dhabi’s leadership as a sustainable tourism destination and a global economic hub. The ticketing system offers a wide range of additional features, such as an online ticketing service that produces, promotes and distributes tickets after events are approved.”
In March 2017, DCT Abu Dhabi launched a unified system for licensing all events held in Abu Dhabi, providing an integrated online platform that delivers an efficient method to record and license all events held in the emirate.
Instead of obtaining the necessary approvals from each of the 22 relevant entities separately, event organisers can access the online platform, submit an application for obtaining an event license along with the required documents, and depending on the type of event, expect to receive approvals within seven days.
