2015 Global Eco Conference heads to Rottnest Island

The 23rd Annual Global Eco Conference will be staged on Rottnest Island, Western Australia from 17th to 19th November 2015.

Announcing the Rottnest Island venue, Ecotourism Australia Chief Executive Rod Hillman said the sustainability initiatives on the Island and Western Australia’s leading work in marine ecotourism would make for an excellent location for Global Eco.

The conference was last held on Rottnest Island in 2001 in the wake of September 11 terrorist attacks and the collapse of Ansett Airlines.

Global Eco Convenor Tony Charters recalls “delegate numbers were down but it was was the most amazing conference.

“Delegates used unconventional meeting rooms - like the picture theatre with its canvas chairs; were issues with push bikes, and did a circumnavigation of the Island.”

The conference is being supported through the generous assistance of Tourism Western Australia, the Rottnest Island Authority and the Department of Parks and Wildlife.

The 2014 Global Eco Conference was staged as part of the recent IUCN World Parks Congress in Sydney.
